Geocaching survival skills: Illumination

Am Abend mal in die Nachtcache Runde eingetaucht und dabei auch nach den Reflektoren ausschau gehalten. Was für eine Latscherei, vor zurück und wieder geleuchtet.🤢 Aber hier sind wirklich die Reflektoren sowas von Schwach, das man sie nur erahnen konnte. Etwas weiter den Weg gelaufen und hier sahen wir wirklich große Reflektoren. Ab da an ging die Suche los. Am GZ, return und hier haben wir uns fast wie die Hasen verhalten. Den GPS Daten zufolge ein wirres durcheinander 🤪, bis die Dose zum Vorschein kam. Hammer, das war echt Schwerstarbeit bei Nacht. 🤯 Hier sollte der Owner für neue Reflektoren sorgen, dann klappt das auch mit den Besuchern.😁 Danke fürs zeigen und herlocken. Hier waren wir heute am Nachmittag leider nicht erfolgreich. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Da müssen wir wohl doch besser bei Dunkelheit wiederkommen. ☻️

Got it! But it was a hard task and I needed a lot of tries. I started last fall by daylight, as others made it this way, too. But I could't find any of the tacks. Another try on a very cloudy day - it was darker, but no success. So I started later and later, last time it was already quite dark at dusk with fresh batteries in my lamp, which usually makes tacks visible even at a distance of 50 meters or more. But I still couldn't find anything. Today I started late in the evening and I had some help with me: the final coordinates, a photo of the tacks on the final tree and a photo of the base of the final tree. Now I understand why I wasn't lucky all the time: There's only one(!) single tack left on the final tree and it doesn't reflect the light as it should - it's simply white and almost impossible to distinguish from the lichen around it. I only recognized it when I stood directly beneath it, because it wasn't flat as the lichen but had the shape of a pyramid. From the photos I knew that it's the right tree, although there was only one tack instead of two, but it took about 20 minutes to find the box completely buried under moss. I left some twigs above it, so that it should look "suspicious" to geocachers. Tftc
